Vander Berg's - Sussex

During - part 2 . . .

So, leading the procession with our huntsman's parents in my car, what to our wondering eyes should appear but a tiny figure alongside the left side of the road moving away from the sound of the hounds but not terribly worried - stopping long enough to curl up in the sun - obviously not worried by cars going by.  We got past the fox and around the corner a bit and screamed the fox (what a chance to practice my rebel yell!) who seemed totally disdainful of our efforts.  It was not until the hounds were very close that he decided he might ought to book a bit so did a circle around the yard of the house on the corner and disappeared!  Unfortunately most of the field was over the hill for this as we also had farm equipment going by (never a dull moment) but the hound music that close on the fox was superb!.  It turned out the fox popped through a road culvert we did not know was there and then came out by the field.  It came up the road, jinked towards the Ricker's main barn a little bit then turned around and came back the way it came before passing the Hilltopping field and then going off the road towards the old hay barns.  Another screech!  After un-culverting the hounds (one made it all the way through), Jordan and Michael brought the hounds over the rise.  The scent was so bad that the hounds were having a time of it (especially with 48 hot horses right there!).  They finally marked him to ground in the midst of some overgrown brush just below the barn.  Jordan tried to draw a bit beyond that in case he came out a bit further down, but the sun was really high and hot at that point.
